Plant Stakes one of the project choices in the Introduction To Fused Glass class

What is Fused Glass?

  • Glass fusing is the process of joining compatible sheet glasses together in a kiln until the glass fuses at approximately 1490 degrees Fahrenheit. It grants you the power to create colorful, dynamic works of glass art that are completely unique. Projects will be ready for pickup approximately 1 week later.

What is Stained Glass?

  • We make stained glass by precisely cutting pieces of glass and soldering them together using either copper foil or lead strips (we are only working with foil at this time) )  We will be using transparent glass as stained glass is primarily utilized in windows where the beauty of the light shines through and creates stunning reflections.

Stained Glass is a designer’s medium and we will work with you to plan and assemble simple suncatchers and panels.  In more advanced classes, we will explore painting on glass and incorporating fused elements into our stained glass designs.

What is Mosaic Glass?

  • A user friendly “cold” technique requiring only glass, nippers, glue, and grout.  We will create a design on a surface-- box, board, trivet, tray, tabletop or picture frame, glue the “tesserae-- pieces of colored glass-- into place, let it set, then grout the design in place.   There is no end to the beautiful decorative mosaics you can create.
